Treatments of Asthma
Asthma – a chronic inflammatory condition of airway – arises mainly due to allergies. A life threatening situation, Asthma flares up due to contact to dust, smoke or air pollutants. It can also be triggered as an unfavorable reaction to certain food items. Asthma is recognized by wheezing and breathlessness. Occasionally it extends to a point, where the asthma patient has to wheeze for air.
Ayurvedic view of Asthma
As per Ayurveda, Asthma is caused by imbalanced Kapha Dosha while Pitta Dosha causes cardiac Asthma. Cardiac Asthma signs comprise irritability, wheezing, fever, coughing, and yellow phlegm. Asthma created by Vata Dosha can be recognized by dry mouth, wheezing, dry cough, thirst, anxiety, dry skin, and constipation.
Ayurveda as a substitute treatment for Asthma
Ayurveda has been widely accepted as an alternative treatment for Asthma. The type of ayurvedic therapy approved for Asthma depends on the Dosha; the patient is suffering from. The ayurvedic medicines are generated from vitamins, herbs, minerals and proteins that improve immunity.
Virechana and Vamana – These are two most common Panchakarma procedures that form very effective natural treatments for it.
In Vamana, herbs like liquorice, emetic nut and sweet flag are given to the patient. These herbs bring therapeutic vomiting that eliminates the imbalanced Dosha through upper gastro-intestinal tract.
In Virechana, the patient is prepared to consume herbal purgative preparations that induce toxin elimination through the anal route ensuring the well-being of the patient.
Rasayana Therapy – Followed after the Panchakarma treatments, Rasayana therapy renew or refresh mind and body. In this treatment or therapy, oral medicines are given to the patient along with diet regulation. Rasayana reinstalls the normal functions of the body and maintains overall health.
Herbal Remedies for Asthma
Agastya Rasayana and Chyawanprash are identified as the effective herbal remedies for its treatment.
Chyawanprash – a rich source of Vitamin C — is usually taken in doses of one teaspoonful thrice a day. It can be taken in a mixture of Sitopaladi Churna and honey for better results.
Agastya Rasayana is usually prescribed if the asthma causes constipation. Ayurvedic therapists recommend a mixture of black pepper, honey and onion juice as a helpful home remedy to relieve it.
